June 17 1997 LOCAL BUSINESSWOMAN PUTS
SHEFFIELD ON THE INTERNET
Sheffield
businesswoman Wendi Hebb is
hoping to put the city on the map by launching a
new Internet
web site called 'Made In Sheffield'.
Wendi, a jewellery
designer, aims to use
Shefield's unique brand name to promote the city
world-wide to
Internet users.
"Made In
Sheffield is a prestigious phrase that's
known all over the world as a mark of quality
craftsmanship" said
Wendi. "Its the perfect address for a
website aiming to raise
awareness of Sheffield's products, people and
places."
The Made In
Sheffield website, will be launched in
September and can be found at www.made-in-sheffield.com. The site
will have its own Cyberstore - a virtual shop
selling 'made in Sheffield'
goods - plus an on-line leisure and entertainment
magazine and
arts directory.
"It's a
unique way for Internet users to find out
what Sheffield has to offer, right from the
smallest craftspeople to
the largest steel manufacturer," explained
Wendi.
Wendi thought of
the Made In Sheffield concept
last February while researching ways to promote
her own business,
Jujube Jewellery, on the Internet.
"I realised
that my website address would have to
be something more memorable than 'Jujube' because
that would be very
difficult to find among the millions of other
Internet sites," she said.
Keying in 'Made In
Sheffield', Wendi found the
address - www.made-in-sheffield.com - was still for sale and
bought
it last May.
She added: "I
hope to build on the good work
of initiatives such as Destination Sheffield and
Heart and Soul in their
aim to make Sheffield a forward thinking and
prosperous city."
Ends.
