March 18 1998LAUNCH OF MADE IN
SHEFFIELD DOT COM
INTERNET GALLERY
Made In Sheffield
Dot Coms
new Internet Gallery promises a shopping
experience with a difference.
As well as
offering all exhibits for sale, the
gallerys
Internet link will enable visitors to shop for
Sheffield made products on-line through
a virtual Cyberstore.
The gallery, in
Sheffields Orchard Square Craft Centre,
opens on March 27 and will showcase Sheffield
art, craftwork and manufacturing.
The Made In Sheffield Cyberstore, featuring over
300 Sheffield made products,
will complement the gallerys exhibitions of
Sheffield made jewellery, ceramics,
photography and sculpture.
"Shopping on
the Internet is still a relatively new idea for
most people, so the gallery will provide a
tangible link to the products available
through our web site," explained Managing
Director Wendi Hebb.
The Cyberstore
will offer traditional Sheffield cutlery,
silver and pewter ware alongside contemporary
jewellery and high quality gifts.
It works in the same way as a mail order
catalogue, but everything - from
selecting a gift to paying for it - happens
on-line. Over 40 Sheffield
manufacturers and craft workers have taken part
in the project.
"We feel the
products in the gallery and Cyberstore
are worthy of the name Made in
Sheffield which has symbolised
manufacturing excellence for hundreds of
years," added Wendi Hebb.
The Cyberstore is
part of the Made In Sheffield web site,
which aims to promote Sheffields products,
people, places and services
worldwide through the Internet. The site (at www.made-in-sheffield.com)
also boasts an Arts Directory & Diary (a
lottery funded project promoting
Sheffields creative people and events),
plus an Interactive Map of
Sheffield city centre, providing a wealth of
tourist information.
Ends.
