Anne Heppell,
Book Binder
(1955-present)
Anne Heppell
was born at Treetown Crescent, Treeton - a small village between
Sheffield and Rotherham - in 1955. At the age of fifteen her father,
a local school teacher, gained employment with an overseas development
agency and was posted to Malaysia. Anne became the first European
pupil to attend St. Georges School, Penang, where she continued
her education for twelve months.
On returning
to Sheffield Anne finished her A levels and then began a career
in Nursing, working at both Sheffield Infirmary and at The Royal
Hospital, now the site of a large supermarket, where she met Geoff
Heppell. Anne and Geoff were married in 1982 at Sheffield
Registery Office. In 1983 their son James was "Made in Sheffield"
and born at Sheffield's Northern General Hospital.
When Anne returned
to work she served a six year apprenticeship with book binder Sue
Callaghan before starting her own book binding service in the early
nineties.
Anne presently
runs her business from
Orchard Square's Craft Centre and offers a total handbinding
service which includes express Thesis and Dissertation binding.
